Fairy Girl Art journal Page

I was playing in my journal this weekend and I decided to make a quick little tutorial to share. If you have any questions feel free to leave me a comment. Enjoy!

Here is a photo of the finished project

Step1:  Pick Three of your favorite Spray inks and grab a few paper towels. Make sure the colors you pick are complimentary to one another. If you are not sure I recommend looking at a color wheel. I used Dylusion Sprays in the colors Bubble Gum Pink, After Midnight and Pure Sunshine.

Step 2: Spray your journal page with water first then spray your ink. The water will help the ink Spread and blend.Next take your paper towels and dab off any excessive water spots. When finished with your spraying you can use a heat tool to dry the page or you can set it aside to dry while you move onto the next step.

Step 3: Start by using some texture paste and a palette knife to create flower petals and fairy wings. I sketched my flower petals and fairy wings on a sheet of white 100 lb cardstock (any heavy cardstock will do). I then used my palette knife to spread some texture paste on top of my sketches not being to careful about following the lines.

Step 4:  After setting my textured elements aside to dry I went back to my journal page. I used my heat tool to dry the ink completely followed by a thin layer of Gesso (this creates texture and preps the surface for paint or other color mediums) that I applied using a palette knife. I waited for the Gesso to dry (do not use a heat tool on Gesso as acrylic Gesso is plastic, heat and plastic doent mix, a light coat will air dry pretty quickly). Next I grabbed a few background stamps and stamped away add character to my pages.

Step 5:  I took a small piece of water color paper and I sketched out my whimsical girls face and I colored it with some water color markers but any water color medium you have will do for this step. Once I was done I took a piece of 6x6 scrapbook paper and cut out a simple dress for the body. I set that aside and moved back to my background.

Step 6:  I used some old dictionary paper and drew some clouds which I then applied to my using Ranger Matte Medium.

Step 7: Doodle on your background, trace elements, use stencils and add color using whatever mediums you have. I used Gelatos to add more color to my page.

Step 8: Cut out the texture paste flower petals and fairy wings from earlier, color them and glue them down to your journal page but leave a space for your fairy girl. Also, leave the fairy wings to be glued last.

Step 9:  Adhere the fairy girl to your back ground then glue the wings in place and add glitter if you'd like to the wings. I used Tim Holtz Distress dry glitter

Step 10 (optional):  Add a quote or phrase to your page otherwise you are done!
